Poker Run
POKER \po-ker\ n : one that pokes; esp: a metal rod for stirring a fire.
RUN \run\ vb: to go faster than a walkHave you heard talk about poker runs and wondered what the heck it is?
Let me set you onto the right track. Poker runs are one of the best ways I can think of to waste a perfectly good weekend day riding a motorcycle! You get complimentary use of public highways; the right to make as much noise as your motorcycle can make; a chance to meet some nice people dressed in black T-shirts; and best of all, you get to check out the best that Mother Nature has to offer, the great outdoors via a motorcycle.
They typically are a fun ride through the countryside on some back roads that you probably have never been on. The rides typically provide you with detailed directions (that usually are correct), have three or four checkpoints so you can stop and make new friends or stretch your bod or whatever, and cover 70 or so miles of our beautiful area. Wherever they end up, you actually get to draw some cards to make up a "poker hand" (catchy detail, huh) and have a chance at some nifty awards, door prizes, and trophies.
So, the next time you see a flyer for a poker run you will know what it is all about.
Come on out and ride that motorcycle that you paid all those big bucks for, make some new friends, and enjoy a fun day in the sun, and also tell all of your friends (you have some, right?)
Come on out and ride, or help out (if it's our club's run), and have a good time. That=s why we belong to this organization isn't it?
