Although tobacco crops are few and far between these days, you will still find corn and soybean fields, plus other local produce, in abundance. Due to our rich, fertile soil, wineries are emerging and local wines are winning awards for their unique qualities. While you are searching out these wineries, don't be surprised to see some of our local Mennonites and Amish skirting down the road in their horse drawn buggies. They are a wonderful piece of the Southern Maryland area and still farm with century proven methods such as horse drawn plows.
Aside from the Amish Community, old agricultural methods have been pushed aside by modern communities, businesses, shopping malls, restaurants and factories but farming is still a proud tradition for Southern Maryland. The lack of congestion provides motorcyclists with some phenomenal road trip and biking opportunities through rolling hills covered with agricultural fields.
Many of these rides end with an awesome seafood meal at one of our local restaurants serving fresh and locally harvested fare and residing on the edge of the Patuxent or Potomac Rivers.
